CFTC Seeks Dismissal of CME Lawsuit Over Crypto Perpetual Contracts
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has asked a court to dismiss CME Group's lawsuit over its policy of treating cryptocurrency perpetual contracts as futures.
CME claims that this classification harms its business, but the CFTC argues that CME itself can list digital-asset perpetual futures under the current policy.
The regulator also contends that reclassifying perpetual contracts as swaps rather than futures would not necessarily eliminate any competitive disadvantage for CME, as other exchanges could still offer similar products.
