CFTC Sets Aggressive Agenda for Regulating Emerging Financial Technologies
CFTC Chairman Michael S. Selig outlined an agenda for regulating emerging financial technologies at a meeting in Washington on August 20, 2026.
The CFTC plans to explore rulemaking for crypto asset markets, compute markets tied to artificial intelligence, and prediction markets under existing authority or new legislation called CLARITY.
The proposed regulations would apply to registered and some non-registered exchanges offering leveraged or margined crypto asset trading. The agency is also partnering with the Department of Commerce on a regulatory framework for compute markets allocating GPU capacity and AI resources.
