CFTC Tackles Crypto, AI, and Prediction Markets in Bid for Regulatory Clarity
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has kicked off its first Innovation Advisory Committee meeting, focusing on the impact of crypto, artificial intelligence, and prediction markets on US finance. The meeting, chaired by Walt Lukken, brought together executives from companies including Ripple, Coinbase, Uniswap, and CME Group.
CFTC Chairman Michael Selig emphasized the need for clearer rules to stay ahead in these rapidly growing markets. He noted that the agency currently oversees about half of the world's $1.2 quadrillion derivatives market.
The meeting centered on crypto, with Selig stating that the CFTC is working with the SEC on clearer rules for digital assets. If the CLARITY Act continues to stall, the CFTC will use its existing powers to build rules for crypto markets.
