CFTC Tackles Crypto Regulation in August Meeting
The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is set to hold its first meeting of the Innovation Advisory Committee on August 20, with a focus on clearer federal rules for the growing crypto market. The committee will explore how the US can move from a patchwork of digital-asset rules towards unified federal oversight.
The meeting comes as regulators seek to address the lack of unified federal rules for crypto markets and discuss regulatory barriers facing crypto companies. One session will examine AI's impact on trading, compliance, surveillance, and risk management, while another will cover prediction markets and event contracts.
CFTC Chairman Michael S. Selig said that America has long been the global hub of financial innovation. The committee will also discuss state licensing, overlapping regulatory powers, and the current system's impact on innovation and investment.
