CFTC to Examine Crypto Regulation Amid Congressional Delay

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is set to hold its inaugural Innovation Advisory Committee meeting on August 20, where it will examine crypto regulation, artificial intelligence, and prediction markets. The move comes as Congress delays action on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, a broader digital asset market structure bill.

The CFTC's agenda for the meeting explicitly lists opportunities to modernize existing rules using current statutory authority and areas where regulatory action can complement future congressional legislation. However, it is worth noting that the IAC is advisory, meaning its recommendations do not automatically represent the Commission's position.

The CLARITY Act, which aims to provide a comprehensive federal market structure framework for digital assets, still faces a September 15 Senate test. The bill has not failed, but it needs enough support to clear the Senate's 60-vote cloture threshold.
