Chainalysis Challenges $94.6 Million Contract Award Over Competitive Bidding

Share

Chainalysis has filed a lawsuit against the US government over a $94.6 million contract awarded to rival TRM Labs by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The company claims that ICE bypassed normal competitive bidding rules for the deal, which is intended to provide blockchain forensic software and support services to Homeland Security Task Force investigations.

The contract runs from July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027, and was awarded directly to TRM Labs without a formal bidding process. Chainalysis argues that this decision was 'arbitrary, capricious, and unreasonable,' and that the company is ready to compete for the work.

The court has scheduled oral arguments for September 2, with a final decision sought by September 10. A ruling in favor of Chainalysis could require ICE to reconsider the award and put more pressure on federal agencies to use competitive bidding for similar contracts.
