Chainalysis Flags Over 7,700 Suspect Accounts in Global Crypto Abuse Probe
Chainalysis' Operation Lighthouse has yielded significant results in its global investigation into cryptocurrency activity linked to child sexual abuse material. The blockchain analytics firm flagged over 7,700 suspect accounts during the operation, which generated 14,300 investigative leads across 125 countries.
The multi-day probe, conducted in New York with nine law enforcement agencies and 13 private-sector and nonprofit partners, examined 29,120 cryptocurrency addresses and digital identifiers. This tracing activity spanned more than 100 platforms and networks, including centralized exchanges (CEXs), decentralized exchanges (DEXs), and DeFi networks.
Operation Lighthouse targeted consumers, vendors, marketplace operators, and administrators linked to suspected networks involved in illicit activities. The investigation's findings underscore the heightened compliance and regulatory risk for cryptocurrency exchanges and projects, which could pressure adoption and on-chain privacy practices.
