Chainalysis Sues US Government Over Blockchain Analytics Contract
Chainalysis has taken the US government to court over a blockchain analytics contract awarded to TRM Labs without proper competitive bidding. The lawsuit, filed in the US Court of Federal Claims, alleges that the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement sidestepped federal procurement protocols.
The contested contract involves blockchain forensic software and services used by law enforcement agencies to trace cryptocurrency transactions tied to criminal investigations. Chainalysis claims that TRM Labs received a sole-source award from ICE for blockchain-related analytics support, valued in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Chainalysis has historically held contracts worth tens of millions across federal agencies, including the IRS, FBI, DEA, and ICE. The company argues that this contract was unfairly awarded to TRM Labs without following standard federal procurement procedures.
