Chainflip Hit by $736K Loss in TRON USDT Exploit
Chainflip, a decentralized protocol, has suffered a significant loss of $736,442 due to an attacker exploiting its TRON USDT integration. The attack occurred on September 12 and was discovered when later USDT payouts started failing.
The attacker used a weakness in the TRON transaction memo system to declare transactions as failures and refund the amounts automatically. This allowed them to extract funds from Chainflip's vaults over an approximately 90-minute period.
Chainflip has suspended its operations temporarily while it works on a fix for the vulnerability. The team is also conducting further analysis before deciding on the final recovery method for the stolen funds.
