Chainlink Connects 600+ Banks to On-Chain Payments via Bottomline Partnership
Chainlink has made significant strides in connecting traditional banking infrastructure to on-chain payments. Bottomline, a top-three SWIFT service provider, has entered a strategic partnership with Chainlink to unlock cross-chain and cross-border payments for its 600+ banking customers.
This partnership is one of the largest traditional-finance integrations in recent updates, with Bottomline moving over $16 trillion in payments annually across its platforms. The oracle network will provide secure interoperability and orchestration, connecting Bottomline's existing infrastructure to public and private blockchains.
The integration relies on two existing Chainlink products: Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) and Chainlink Runtime Environment (CRE). CCIP handles moving tokenized value securely across chains, while CRE coordinates the payment workflow end-to-end. Banks will continue using familiar ISO 20022 messaging standards.
This development demonstrates Chainlink's vision of connecting existing systems to blockchain rails without requiring banks to abandon their existing infrastructure. The partnership also ties into the wider industry conversation around digital asset adoption and interoperability, with Swift's Head of Strategy scheduled to speak on the topic at Link:NYC in October.
