Bottomline, a technology provider that handles over $16 trillion in payments annually, has partnered with Chainlink to integrate blockchain payments into its infrastructure. This partnership will allow more than 600 banks and 1,200 financial institutions that rely on Bottomline's services to access cross-chain and cross-border settlement without having to rebuild their messaging systems.

The deal leverages Chainlink's interoperability technology, specifically the Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) and the Chainlink Runtime Environment (CRE). CCIP handles cross-chain communication and tokenized value transfers, while CRE coordinates payment workflows between banking systems and blockchain networks.

This integration is significant because it provides a scalable solution for financial institutions to connect with multiple blockchain networks through one connection. Bottomline's clients will not need to replace their existing ISO 20022 messaging systems, as Chainlink's infrastructure will translate these instructions into the required blockchain actions.
