Chainlink's Bottomline Deal Could Unlock $16 Trillion Payment Potential
Chainlink's LINK token has seen a significant surge in value following the announcement of a joint venture with Bottomline, a leading payments technology provider. According to the deal, Chainlink will enable Bottomline's bank clients to connect their payments infrastructure with public and private blockchains using Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP). This could potentially result in Chainlink processing around $16 trillion in annual payments, making it one of its most significant deals yet.
Bottomline is a major player in the payment solutions space, providing services to over 1 million financial institutions and enterprises across 92 countries worldwide. The company's Swift connectivity division handles 10 million payments and transactions every day and is ranked as one of the world's three largest Swift service bureaus.
The deal with Chainlink represents a significant step forward for blockchain adoption in the payment solutions space, which is expected to grow significantly over the next few years. According to J.P. Morgan's 2026 forecast, cross-border payments are expected to increase from $194 trillion in 2024 to $320 trillion by 2032.
