Chanos Sees $80 Billion Arbitrage Opportunity in MSTR

Renowned short seller Jim Chanos is signaling another potential opportunity to profit from Michael Saylor's Bitcoin investment vehicle, MSTR. In a recent post on X, Chanos highlighted what he calls 'one of the greatest pure arbitrage situations ever' with an estimated $80 billion up for grabs.

The catalyst for this trade, according to Chanos, is Strategy's own decision to sell its stock, creating a discrepancy in price that can be exploited. While not recommending an $80 billion trade in full, Chanos suggests traders can time specific entries and exits to capitalize on the spread between MSTR and Bitcoin.

Chanos' previous successful short sale of MSTR has been well-documented, with him capturing a significant profit from the decline in the mNAV premium. Since December 2020, the basic mNAV of MSTR has traded between a 0.5x low to a 3.7x high, creating a volatile landscape for traders.
