ChatGPT Used as Phishing Vector for $2.1M Crypto Loss

A significant cryptocurrency phishing incident has been reported, with ChatGPT being used as a vector for a fake swap link. A user, who goes by Alex on X, claimed to have lost around $2.1 million in FXRP after receiving the link from ChatGPT. According to VAL, the blockchain investigator who broke the story, the phishing site appeared suitable for the swap and even contained a 'unlimited approve' transaction option.

The victim, Alex, stated that he had asked ChatGPT where to swap sFLR for WFLR, and its response included the phishing link. The 'unlimited approve' feature allowed the attacker to move FXRP within seconds, resulting in a loss of 1.9 million FXRP.

VAL also reported tracking transactions involving DAI, FLR, and ETH, with $380,000 in DAI found in one wallet and another $310,000 in DAI transferred elsewhere. In addition, 889 ETH was sent to another wallet.

Alex warned other victims about recovery scammers who often target people after crypto losses. The incident highlights the risks of relying on AI-generated links when handling cryptocurrency transactions.
