Chelsea Signs Circle as Main Sponsor in Historic Crypto Deal
Chelsea FC has signed Circle Internet Group as their new main sponsor, a deal that marks the most high-profile partnership between a Premier League club and a company operating in the crypto space. The one-year front-of-shirt agreement will see USDC, the stablecoin issued by Circle, appear on Chelsea's men's, women's, and academy teams' jerseys this season.
The partnership represents a significant coup for both parties, with Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire stating that partnering with Chelsea connects them with 'a global sports community built on [their] exact same borderless vision'. The deal comes as Chelsea continues to navigate a turbulent summer, having appointed Xabi Alonso as their sixth permanent manager since the takeover by Todd Boehly and Clearlake in 2022.
Chelsea's agreement with Circle has been welcomed as a major milestone for the crypto industry, which has been increasingly looking to partner with sports teams. The west London club had previously struggled to secure a long-term front-of-shirt sponsor, having taken short-term agreements with various companies since their deal with mobile network Three expired in 2023.
