Chime Users Can Buy Cryptocurrency Through ACH Transfers and Debit Card Payments
Chime is a fintech platform that supports cryptocurrency purchases through its Visa debit card and ACH transfers, but it does not offer direct cryptocurrency trading or custody services. The platform has partnered with several exchanges, including Coinbase, Kraken, and Crypto.com, which accept Chime payments without additional friction.
The daily spending limit on the Chime debit card is $2,500, which applies to all purchases, including cryptocurrency transactions. ACH transfers typically settle within one to three business days and generally have lower costs than debit card purchases, although buyers may still pay trading fees and spreads.
Chime's fraud detection system may hold or decline crypto-related payments if they are flagged as unusual or for compliance or security concerns. Users who want to buy Bitcoin or other digital assets must fund a separate, regulated exchange, such as Coinbase, which accepts both Chime debit card deposits and ACH transfers.
Chime does not sell cryptocurrency directly due to the cost of obtaining money transmitter licenses in each US state, along with FinCEN registration and ongoing compliance infrastructure. The absence of native crypto support does not prevent Chime users from participating in digital asset markets, but it means the exchange handles custody, execution, and regulatory compliance.
Users should enable two-factor authentication on both Chime and the receiving exchange to protect their assets. Storing purchased crypto in a self-custody wallet rather than on an exchange reduces counterparty risk and is recommended for long-term holders.
