China's state-affiliated China Business Journal has been impersonated by scammers demanding Bitcoin payments, according to a public warning issued on July 29. The scheme involves targeting companies with emails claiming undercover investigations have uncovered damaging information about their business.

The emails, often sent from Proton Mail accounts, threaten to expose the negative reports unless the company pays in Bitcoin. The China Business Journal emphasizes that it does not operate through unofficial channels and all its reporting adheres to official regulations and Chinese law.

The publication is currently collecting evidence related to the scheme and has reserved its right to pursue legal action against the perpetrators. Companies targeted by these emails are advised to preserve every piece of evidence and report the incident to local authorities.
