China Business Journal Impersonators Demand Bitcoin Ransoms

Fraudsters posing as reporters and representatives of the China Business Journal have been extorting companies by threatening to publish damaging information unless they pay a ransom in Bitcoin.

The scammers claim that investigative journalists have uncovered compromising information about the target company through undercover investigations, but this is entirely false.

According to the publication's management, the emails are unauthorized and constitute criminal fraud. The newspaper has moved swiftly to distance itself from the extortion attempts and is working with legal teams to gather digital evidence and prepare actions against the perpetrators.
