Circle Acquires IBM Blockchain Patent Portfolio for Onchain Expansion
Circle has made a significant move in its expansion of onchain financial infrastructure by acquiring IBM's blockchain patent portfolio.
The acquisition includes over 680 patent families and nearly 1,000 issued patents, giving Circle the largest blockchain patent holdings in the United States.
The patents cover a range of technologies including blockchain technology, banking, financial services, enterprise infrastructure, supply chain verification, and secure cloud operations.
Circle's General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, Sarah Wilson, stated that intellectual property plays a key role in advancing the company's mission to expand adoption of onchain financial infrastructure.
