Circle Buys Tazapay to Expand Global Payments Reach
Circle Internet Group Inc., the company behind the popular stablecoin USDC, is expanding its global payments reach through an acquisition of Singapore-based Tazapay. The deal was announced on Tuesday and is expected to close in 2027, subject to customary conditions and regulatory approvals.
Tazapay provides business-to-business payment infrastructure to payment service providers and financial institutions, processing over $25 billion in annualized payment volume. About 60% of Tazapay's transaction volume involves stablecoins, which Circle co-founder and CEO Jeremy Allaire says is becoming core infrastructure in the global economy.
The acquisition will add more than 60 banking and fintech partners to Circle's network, bringing local payout capabilities across over 100 markets. This expansion is expected to strengthen Circle's payments infrastructure across Asia-Pacific and emerging markets, ultimately increasing its ability to originate and complete payments globally on a near-instant, 24/7 basis.
