Circle Expands Global Payments Network With Tazapay Acquisition

Circle is expanding its global payments network with the acquisition of Singapore-based cross-border payments platform Tazapay. The deal, which is expected to close in 2027 subject to regulatory approval, will give Circle access to over 100 markets and more than $25 billion in annualized payment volume.

Tazapay's existing stablecoin activity is a significant factor in the acquisition, with Circle estimating that stablecoins make up around 60% of Tazapay's transaction volume. This rate of adoption indicates that numerous enterprises are already adopting blockchain-fundamentals-based settlement to lessen costs and delays involved in traditional correspondent banking.

Circle hopes to expand the reach of settlements built on these rails and make cross-border transactions easier and more efficient, said Jeremy Allaire, Co-Founder and CEO of Circle. The integration of USDC and Tazapay's banking infrastructure could propel the adoption of digital dollar payments on a global scale.
