Circle Floods Solana with Another Half-Billion in USDC
Circle has minted $500 million in USDC on Solana for the second time this year, following a similar issuance of $500 million on June 8. This marks another significant move in what's been described as a 'sustained liquidity migration' towards Solana.
The latest tranche pushed cumulative USDC minting on Solana to over $66 billion by mid-July, with the network's share of global USDC supply briefly reaching above 10% during peak periods. Circle's partnership with the Solana Foundation has enabled native USDC issuance since late 2020.
The fact that these large-scale issuances have become a recurring event suggests that traders and institutions are increasingly turning to Solana for dollar-denominated on-chain activity. The increased liquidity is expected to translate into deeper markets, tighter spreads, and better execution for traders.
