Circle Gives Developers 95 Days to Migrate from Legacy USDC Transfer Protocol
Circle, the company behind the stablecoin USDC, is giving developers and integrators 95 days to migrate from its legacy Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol (CCTP) version 1 to version 2. The migration deadline is December 1, when the old contracts will stop processing USDC transfers.
Circle plans to reduce burn limits on October 31, which will limit how much USDC can be destroyed and reminted on another chain. This will begin a wind-down period in November, during which the capacity of the legacy contracts will progressively shrink.
The migration requires code changes, including updating contract interfaces and APIs, replacing legacy attestation calls with new ones, and handling applicable fees. Circle currently supports 27 blockchains on its CCTP network, but some chains like Aptos, Noble, and Sui are only supported by the legacy network unless an integrator uses a separate alternative.
