Circle Internet Group Shares Soar as Bitcoin Surges Past $80,000
Circle Internet Group Inc (NYSE:CRCL) shares surged Thursday morning, boosted by Bitcoin's rally above $80,000.
The sharp increase in crypto prices led to a surge in trading activity across major exchanges. This, in turn, drove up demand for Circle's USDC stablecoin, which is used as a safe dollar equivalent for buying and selling during trades.
As investors rely on USDC, Circle creates new coins and puts the dollars behind them into U.S. government bonds and bank accounts. The bigger the reserve pool grows, the more interest income Circle collects.
Circle's Arc mainnet launch, scheduled for September 16, marks a strategic pivot from issuing stablecoins to owning financial infrastructure. The proprietary blockchain will scale institutional asset tokenization and cross-border payments, allowing Circle to monetize transfers directly through USDC-denominated gas fees.
