Circle, Kakao Group Collaborate on Blockchain Payments in South Korea
Circle and Kakao Group have partnered to explore blockchain-driven payment infrastructure in South Korea. The memorandum of understanding (MOU) aims to investigate stablecoin transactions, cross-border remittances, and bridges linking banking systems to blockchain networks.
The partnership brings together Circle's payment technology with Kakao's sprawling ecosystem, which includes Kakao Pay, Kakao Bank, and the messaging app KakaoTalk. The MOU centers on weaving Circle's stablecoin tools into Kakao's services, with an emphasis on stablecoin payments and cross-border remittances.
Kakao Pay CEO Shin Won-keun stated that the partnership is set to help build out a Korean digital asset ecosystem together with Circle. The two sides describe the deal as exploratory, with technical and regulatory reviews underway before any possible launch.
