Circle Partners with Chelsea FC as Principal Partner for USDC Sponsorship
Circle has partnered with Chelsea FC as its principal partner and official front-of-shirt sponsor, marking a significant move for the company's USDC stablecoin brand. The agreement will see Circle branding appear across Chelsea's men's, women's, and academy shirts, beginning with the 2026/27 season.
The partnership arrives at a time when competition among dollar-backed digital currencies is intensifying. With a combined market capitalization of roughly $288 billion, USDT remains dominant at about $183.4 billion, while USDC has approximately $73.7 billion in circulation. Circle's CEO Jeremy Allaire stated that the company built USDC on the belief that money should work seamlessly for everyone everywhere.
The sponsorship is seen as a key opportunity for Circle to expand its reach and introduce USDC to consumers who have little connection with crypto trading. The agreement also highlights the growing importance of network effects, where users prefer tokens that are already accepted across exchanges, wallets, payment applications, and financial platforms.
Circle's partnership with Chelsea is notable given the company's different regulatory strategy from Tether. USDC has been structured to operate within the GENIUS Act framework signed into law last year, while Tether continues to run USDT primarily as a global product.
