Circle Partners with Kakao and Toss Bank to Fuel Stablecoin Adoption in South Korea
Circle, the issuer of USDC, has announced two strategic partnerships in South Korea with tech giant Kakao and neobank Toss Bank. The goal is to build a blockchain payment infrastructure in one of Asia's most active crypto markets.
The partnership positions Circle at the heart of a rapidly evolving Korean financial ecosystem, where stablecoins could soon become part of the daily lives of tens of millions of users. Kakao and Toss Bank are heavyweights in South Korea - Kakao has over 47 million users on its KakaoTalk app, while Toss Bank has over 9 million active customers.
The blockchain infrastructure would dramatically reduce the delays and fees associated with traditional international wire transfers, a market estimated to be worth several hundred billion dollars across Asia. Circle is accelerating this shift by aligning with brands as established as Kakao and Toss, with a broader geographic expansion strategy in Southeast and Northeast Asia.
