Circle Q2 Earnings: Profit Beat Not Enough to Save Revenue Miss
Circle Internet Group's quarterly earnings report has left investors with mixed feelings. Despite beating Wall Street's profit expectations, the USDC stablecoin issuer's revenue fell short of analyst estimates.
The company reported a 7% year-over-year increase in revenue and reserve income to $701 million, but this was below the estimated range of $712 million to $718 million. Adjusted earnings per share came in at 18 cents, topping the consensus estimate of 16 cents, while net income from continuing operations reached $48 million.
A closer look at the numbers reveals a problem: despite holding more reserves than ever, Circle is earning less on each dollar due to a drop in reserve return rates. This interest rate issue has significant implications for the company's earnings story.
The onchain activity data also paints an interesting picture: USDC circulation grew 19% year-over-year, but transaction volume surged 151% to $14.8 trillion, indicating that each dollar of USDC is turning over much faster than expected.
