Circle Secures NYDFS Approval for USDC Infrastructure Expansion
Circle Internet Group has secured a special-purpose trust charter authorization from the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS), allowing it to operate Circle New York Trust.
This license adds a state regulatory layer to Circle's operations and is directly linked to its USDC infrastructure. The move comes as stablecoins expand their presence in the financial market and attract greater attention from regulators.
Circle received this authorization just weeks after securing final approval from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) to create First National Digital Currency Bank, N.A., which will operate under the name Circle National Trust. This federal institution will initially focus on digital asset custody services for Circle and related companies.
Jeremy Allaire, Circle's CEO, considers obtaining this trust charter an important strategic objective for the company, offering greater regulatory clarity and positioning USDC within a structure aimed at digital asset supervision.
