Circle Secures NYDFS Approval for USDC-Linked Trust Entity
Circle Internet Group has secured a significant regulatory milestone in New York, one of the most closely watched states in the digital asset space. The company received approval from the NYDFS for a limited purpose trust entity tied to its stablecoin issuer, USDC. This new unit will operate under the name Circle Internet Trust Company LLC, doing business as Circle New York Trust.
The move builds on a relationship that stretches back more than a decade. In 2015, Circle became the first company to receive a BitLicense from NYDFS, marking the start of its long-running regulatory relationship with the state.
Circle's co-founder, chairman, and CEO Jeremy Allaire framed the charter as a milestone the company had been pursuing for years. He called it 'a longstanding goal tied to regulatory clarity now,' pointing to the significance of the timing.
