Circle Secures Trust Charter from NYDFS Amid USDC's Growing Mainstream Presence
Circle Internet Group has secured a trust charter from New York's financial regulator, NYDFS. This milestone comes over a decade after Circle became the first company to receive a BitLicense in 2015.
The new unit, operating as Circle New York Trust, will be a limited-purpose trust entity tied to the stablecoin issuer of USDC. Jeremy Allaire, co-founder and CEO, framed the charter as 'a longstanding goal tied to regulatory clarity now.'
Allaire pointed out that NYDFS is an international standard setter for digital asset regulation, and New York is Circle's global headquarters. He emphasized the significance of the timing, highlighting USDC's growing presence in mainstream finance.
