Circle Stock Drops Amid Bank Stablecoin Plans
Circle's stock price experienced a drop of over 2% on Wednesday before rebounding in pre-market trading. This comes as traditional banks explore launching their own stablecoins, which could challenge USDC's dominance.
The recent report from Wall Street Journal shows JPMorgan Chase has examined the possibility of issuing a stablecoin and other banks are exploring a joint initiative. Circle's advantages include its Arc blockchain initiative, set to launch in September, and a major regulatory nod from the OCC for its national trust bank.
Analysts at Bernstein remain bullish on Circle stock, setting a price target at $140. Despite the competitive threat from traditional banks, Circle retains several important advantages, according to Shay Boloor.
