Circle Stock Sees Bounce After Chelsea Deal Amid Stablecoin Competition
Circle's stock price surged after the company announced a major sponsorship agreement with Chelsea Football Club. The partnership will place Circle and USDC branding on Chelsea shirts during the 2026/27 season, covering men's, women's, and academy teams.
Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire linked the deal to USDC's international use and cross-border payments, stating that it connects the stablecoin with a global sports audience. Chelsea President Jason Gannon added that the partnership aligns with the club's focus on digital development.
The agreement marks a significant milestone for Circle, which relies heavily on interest income generated from reserves backing its stablecoin. However, reports of major banks evaluating proprietary stablecoins have put pressure on Circle stock, causing it to fall 1.55% in premarket hours on Friday.
