Circle's $3B Arc Blockchain Set for September 16 Launch

Share

Circle's ambitious Arc blockchain is set to go live on September 16, marking a significant milestone for the $3 billion project. The network has been in development with over 100 institutional and ecosystem builders, including major players like BlackRock, Visa, and Mastercard.

The founding validator group is comprised of some of the biggest names in traditional finance, which will provide security and support to the network. Arc is designed for stablecoin payments, tokenized assets, foreign exchange, and always-on financial markets.

Circle's initial funding round raised $222 million at a price of $0.30 per token, valuing the network at $3 billion. The launch also comes with a substantial amount of institutional capital already committed, including investors like a16z crypto and Apollo.

Arc will initially run on a Proof-of-Authority model with permissioned validators before potentially transitioning to Proof-of-Stake or delegated Proof-of-Stake. This will make the native $ARC token the coordination asset for governance, security, and network operations.
