Citadel Buys Situational Awareness Portfolio After AI Stock Rout
Citadel has stepped in to purchase the publicly traded stock portfolio of Situational Awareness, the hedge fund run by Leopold Aschenbrenner. The move comes after heavy losses for Situational's AI-linked equity holdings in July.
The Financial Times reported that Citadel bought the discounted portfolio at a time when liquidity became a major concern for Situational. According to reports, the fund needed cash to meet margin calls from its lenders.
Situational Awareness held public stakes in companies such as Sandisk, CoreWeave, and Bloom Energy, alongside a sizable Bitcoin mining share portfolio. The exact holdings included in the Citadel transaction remain unclear, but it's reported that Situational retained about $10 billion in stocks and private investments after the sale.
