Citadel Securities Drops $600M on Two Crypto Exchanges in Bid for Institutional Growth
Citadel Securities has invested heavily in two major crypto exchanges, Crypto.com and Kraken. The investment firm committed $200 million to Kraken at a $20 billion valuation in November 2025, with an additional $600 million primary round led by other investors also valuing the exchange at $15 billion.
The company then contributed another $200 million to Kraken in a subsequent strategic tranche at the same $20 billion valuation. A similar deal was made with Crypto.com, where Citadel Securities invested $400 million at a $20 billion valuation on July 16, 2026.
Both exchanges plan to expand into tokenized securities and derivatives products, which will require institutional-grade price formation. Citadel Securities has extensive experience in building this type of infrastructure in traditional markets.
