Citadel's $400 Million Bet on Crypto.com Sparks Institutional Hype
Citadel Securities, led by billionaire Ken Griffin, has made another significant investment in the crypto space. On July 16, 2026, Citadel invested $400 million into Crypto.com at a valuation of $20 billion.
This is not the first time Citadel has put its money into a crypto business. In November 2025, it invested $200 million in the Kraken exchange and helped lead a $500 million fundraise for Ripple, which issues XRP, at a $40 billion valuation.
Citadel's investment in Crypto.com is aimed at bolstering the exchange's features supporting the trading of tokenized stocks and financial derivatives. As one of Wall Street's largest market makers, Citadel is securing its position in the financial infrastructure, potentially needing it for its core business in crypto.
The impact on major cryptocurrencies like Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), and XRP could be significant. If Citadel starts market-making on Crypto.com's order books, it could tighten spreads on derivatives like futures contracts, making it easier for large investors to build positions. This could attract even more institutional capital to crypto.
