Citi Prepares to Launch Bitcoin Custody in 2026 with Modular Suite
Citi Investor Services plans to launch digital asset custody this year, starting with Bitcoin, as part of its modernization efforts. The bank aims to meet growing demand for compressed settlement cycles and continuous markets through its Custody+ suite, a modular platform that offers near-instant solutions.
According to Chris Cox, head of investor services at Citi, clients increasingly expect an instant, always-on experience in post-trade activities. The new Custody+ suite includes custody of digital assets, which operate on 24/7 near-instant settlement cycles.
Amit Agarwal, head of custody for investor service at Citi, emphasized that the bank has been building public blockchain infrastructure for five years and sees strong demand from institutions seeking crypto custody. He noted that regulations are becoming more supportive, allowing for growth in new products and solutions on the same infrastructure.
