CLARITY Act Advances: SEC Chair Confirms Senate Vote on September 15
SEC Chair Paul Atkins has confirmed that the CLARITY Act will be voted on in the Senate on September 15. This legislation aims to bring clarity to the regulation of digital assets and is a key step towards making the US a global cryptocurrency hub, according to President Trump's goal.
Atkins expressed his hope that the bill would pass through the Senate and reach the president's desk for signature. The SEC has already demonstrated its willingness to move forward with crypto regulation by releasing a major rule proposal on September 1 to update transfer agent rules for blockchain technology and tokenized securities.
The CLARITY Act has broad support, but some lawmakers are frustrated that it has not yet passed through the Senate. House Majority Whip Tom Emmer has expressed his frustration, while Senator Tim Scott has stated publicly that the bill will become law.
September 15 is a crucial date for the CLARITY Act as it will be voted on in the Senate. If the bill clears 60 votes, the Senate then has a 30-hour window before a final vote that requires only 50 votes, with the Vice President available to break a tie.
