Clarity Act Advances to Crucial Senate Vote on Sept 15
The U.S. Senate has taken its first formal step towards considering the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, giving the crypto market structure bill a narrow path to a September vote.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune filed cloture on Saturday on the motion to proceed to H.R. 3633, the Clarity Act, after an overnight Senate session.
The filing allows the chamber to move quickly toward its first procedural test once lawmakers return from recess. The Senate will vote at 2:15 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Sept. 15, one day after returning from recess, to determine whether debate on the motion to proceed can be limited.
Cloture requires 60 votes, and with Republicans holding 53 Senate seats, at least seven Democrats or independents would need to support the motion if every Republican votes in favor.
