Clarity Act Crypto Bill Confronts Multiple Fronts of Opposition
The Clarity Act, a crypto bill aimed at regulating digital assets, is facing opposition from various quarters. Senator Elizabeth Warren's staff has circulated arguments against the latest ethics compromise included in the revised bill.
Warren's team argues that the new enforcement powers granted to state attorneys general are largely illusory and do not provide a genuinely independent means of enforcing restrictions.
The pushback comes despite Senate Republicans making major concessions, including a new state-level enforcement mechanism. However, Warren's staff claims that this mechanism falls short of providing a truly independent means of enforcing the restrictions.
The bill is also facing opposition from banks, with eight banking trade groups criticizing the newly added 'circuit breaker' designed to address fears that stablecoin rewards could drain deposits from community banks.
