Clarity Act Delayed Again as Senate Cuts Voting Days
The US Senate has fewer voting days in September after House Republicans shortened the calendar. This could delay the CLARITY Act, which would split oversight of digital assets between the SEC and CFTC, and ban US government officials from holding or promoting crypto.
The bill's momentum picked up in August, with Bitcoin ETFs seeing $3.3 billion in inflows despite losing $4.5 billion in June. Bitcoin price (BTC) climbed 25.7% as treasury firms resumed buying.
President Donald Trump pressed Congress to pass the bill on August 19, and Senate committees wrote their own text after the House passed its version in July by a vote of 294 to 134.
SEC Chair Paul Atkins pointed to a September 15 Senate vote as a crucial date for the bill's progress. However, with only four voting days remaining after the Labor Day recess, and the next scheduled voting day being November 9, the bill's path forward is uncertain.
