CLARITY Act Delayed Again as September Vote Looms
The CLARITY Act, a bipartisan US crypto market structure bill, faces another delay as the Senate's crowded schedule and upcoming midterm elections make passage in 2026 increasingly difficult. Grayscale Head of Research Zach Pandl said the chances of Senate approval this year now appear low.
However, he emphasized that failure to pass the bill would not immediately affect Bitcoin or major blockchain networks.
The bill still has a path forward after Senate Majority Leader John Thune filed cloture on the motion to proceed. A cloture vote is scheduled for September 15 at 2:15 p.m. ET, when the Senate returns from recess.
Republicans hold 53 Senate seats, meaning at least seven Democrats or independents would need to support the motion.
