CLARITY Act Faces Do-Or-Die Vote on September 15
The CLARITY Act, a highly anticipated bill aimed at resolving jurisdictional gaps for US crypto companies, is set to face a crucial vote on September 15. If passed, the bill would establish a statutory test determining when a blockchain network and its associated token qualify as a 'digital commodity,' based on factors such as network control and maturity.
Adrian Wall, Managing Director at the Digital Sovereignty Alliance, explained that the September 15 vote is a cloture motion on the motion to proceed, requiring 60 votes to advance. If cleared, it would open the bill to floor debate and amendments.
The CLARITY Act has progressed further than any prior US crypto market structure bill, clearing the House 294-134 and the Senate Banking Committee 15-9. However, a failed cloture vote would halt the process entirely for this session, with a near-term second attempt unlikely due to the Senate's shrinking calendar.
