CLARITY Act Faces Uncertain Fate as Senate Deadline Looms
The CLARITY Act is facing an uncertain fate in the US Senate as it enters its final days before the August recess. The bill aims to provide regulatory clarity for the digital asset market, but its passage is not guaranteed.
Former CFTC Chairman Chris Giancarlo has warned the industry against treating the legislation as an all-or-nothing moment. He stated that blockchain innovation will continue regardless of the bill's fate, and urged the sector to focus on building a 'steady-state' presence in Washington.
Giancarlo acknowledged that the CLARITY Act contains valuable provisions, including the reauthorization of LabCFTC, an innovation hub he launched during his tenure at the CFTC. However, he emphasized that every US financial regulator should establish similar innovation centers to better understand emerging technologies.
