CLARITY Act Faces Uncertain Future Amidst Election Chaos
The US Senate is set to consider the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act, which aims to provide regulatory clarity for the cryptocurrency industry. The bill has been pushed by many in the crypto industry and has gained significant support from lawmakers. However, with a limited window to pass the bill before 2027, there are concerns that it may not be able to advance.
Senator Cynthia Lummis, one of CLARITY's biggest supporters, warned that if the bill fails to pass this year, the next real opportunity for it might not come until 2030. This has sparked worries among crypto advocates who fear that a change in party control could hinder the bill's progress.
The midterm elections are just around the corner, and all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 33 in the Senate are up for grabs. Event contracts on prediction market platforms currently give Democrats the odds on retaking a majority in the House, while the party's chances in the Senate are basically a coin flip.
The crypto industry is also playing a significant role in the elections, with many candidates receiving support from PACs like Fairshake, which is backed by Coinbase and Ripple Labs. These groups have been pouring millions of dollars into ads supporting pro-crypto lawmakers.
