CLARITY Act Fails in Senate Vote Sending Cryptocurrency Market into Free Fall
The US Senate's failure to pass the CLARITY Act on September 15 has sent shockwaves through the cryptocurrency market, with major assets experiencing significant price drops. The bill, which aimed to redraw jurisdiction over digital assets, fell short of the required 60-vote threshold in a 50-50 tie vote.
Bitcoin (BTC) led the decline, dropping 4% below $76,000, while Ethereum (ETH) and Ripple (XRP) fell by 5.22% to $2,404 and over 10% to $1.32 respectively. The market sell-off was triggered by the legislative gridlock, which has left digital asset jurisdiction undivided.
With the SEC continuing to advance its regulatory framework independently, the industry is operating under existing frameworks and the GENIUS Stablecoin Act amid prolonged regulatory uncertainty. This means that the boundaries between the CFTC and SEC will still be defined by individual cases and litigation.
