Clarity Act Fails Senate Vote Amid Trump Crypto Wealth Concerns
Senators failed to advance the Clarity Act in a preliminary vote on Tuesday amid opposition from Democrats over President Donald Trump's crypto wealth.
The bill, which aims to create a comprehensive federal framework for the crypto industry, was unable to secure the necessary 60 votes and will now face an uncertain future.
Senate Republicans released a revised version of the Clarity Act on Tuesday that included new language for 'non-decentralized finance protocols,' but did little to address one of Democrats' main concerns: ethics. Trump's crypto wealth has grown to hundreds of millions of dollars, linked to World Liberty Financial and his TRUMP memecoin.
Sen. Cynthia Lummis, the lead architect of the bill, had called the moment 'now or never' ahead of the cloture vote.
