Clarity Act Hangs by Thread in Senate Vote
The Clarity Act is set to face a crucial vote in the Senate, requiring 60 votes from a chamber where Republicans hold 53 seats. If it passes, the bill would bring much-needed clarity to digital asset regulation. The bill's fate hangs in the balance as Senator Cynthia Lummis' updated draft has made significant concessions.
The updated draft includes around 120 concessions, with one major compromise being on the ethics provision. According to Connor Brown, Executive Director of the Bitcoin Policy Institute and a former Senate staffer, this provision has gotten about 80% of the way there. Brown emphasizes that 7-9 Democrats need to cross the aisle for the bill to pass.
Brown highlights the importance of passing the Clarity Act, stating that it would provide much-needed clarity on digital asset regulation and bring stability to the market. The Bitcoin Policy Institute has expanded its remit into open source AI, which Brown explains could have significant implications for Bitcoin security.
