CLARITY Act May Favor Altcoins Over Bitcoin, Grayscale Research Head Warns
Zach Pandl, Head of Research at Grayscale Investments, expects the CLARITY Act to be a positive catalyst for crypto if it passes its scheduled Senate vote on September 15. However, he believes that Bitcoin may not benefit as much from this legislation as other smart contract platforms and application-layer projects.
Pandl emphasizes the need for bipartisan support for the bill, stating, 'I absolutely think that the Clarity Act will be a positive catalyst if it passes.' He notes that the goal behind the legislation is to normalize how crypto is regulated relative to other established industries.
The CLARITY Act aims to bring clarity and regulatory stability to the crypto market, which Pandl believes would have a more significant impact on smart contract platforms like Ethereum and Solana. According to him, 'Bitcoin is the asset in our industry that has the most clarity around it,' making it less likely to benefit from additional regulatory clarity.
Pandl also draws parallels between current market conditions and the period following crypto's last major bottom in 2022-2023. He notes that a similar setup exists today, where attention has left the market but fundamental drivers have not changed.
